He thought he wasn't due on stage for another six hours or more, when suddenly the schedule changed and he and the band were called on stage earlier than planned. We all know that Carlos Santana dropped acid before going on stage at Woodstock in 1969. The ornate lettering of the "SANTANA" band logo suggests some kind of romantic, but controlled psychedelia. Never underestimate the power of a cool band logo, it can be a very strong part of the identity and image and marketing. Notice how they've added an apostrophe and an "S" in the original graphic style of the famous "SANTANA" band logo, a band logo as famous as that of "The Beatles" and "Oasis".

If you are a real diehard Santana fan, I think you need both covers. The plain one is the one to get, for its purity and simplicity and impact. The cover exists in two versions, one with the original Columbia Records "Santana" logo and "Greatest Hits" and one without any graphics.

Notice the white dove hiding her private parts, that dove image against black skin you'll find in the second best Santana album cover, Santana's Greatest Hits from 1976. I always thought the naked black woman on the cover was the "Black Magic Woman".

I already had so many movie posters, but this one would have been reeeally, really nice to own and proudly display. It was released as a limited edition fine art print in the early '90s and I was a darn fool not to buy it. Klarwein's painting is actually a wrap-around and takes up half of the back cover too. 1970 Abraxas, the second best Santana album and probably the most famous, as it includes "Black Magic Woman", "Samba Pa Ti", and the tour de force, "Toussaint L'Ouverture". This painting by Marti Klarwein is my favorite Santana album cover.
